Not That Long Ago

As the night falls away
And we wrap up our day
Sometimes we might be cold
Get caught in political roles
Minor objections and mini disputes
Tired hearts and hurtful truths
But when she lays her silent head
Upon the pillow in the bed
Watch her as she turns around the time
And think about the love and pride
She enjoyed when she was a child
Not that long ago

In the cold black city
Pushing on to the train
Just to get on
And then get off again
Some early care
Still hangs in her hair
But only barely
When the day is done
She takes off her face
And drops her guard
Watch her as she turns around the time
And think about the love and pride
She enjoyed when she was a child
Not that long ago

But when she lays her silent head
Upon the pillow in the bed
Watch her as she turns around the time
And think about the love and pride
She enjoyed when she was a child
Not that long ago
